What is Hopi Ear Candling?

Thermal Auricular Therapy is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions.

Despite the name, the ‘candles’ are in fact hollow tubes made in the traditional Hopi Indian way by using a combination of herbal extracts such as Sage, Chamomile and St. John’s Wort , which are blended with honey, organically grown linen and beeswax.

During Ear Candle treatment the candles work in three phases, the first being a chimney effect where a gentle suction draws out debris from the ear. Next, the mild heat stimulates the blood and lymph circulation, boosting the immune system, therefore boosting the body’s natural cleansing action. Finally a regulation of the pressure within the sinuses.

You do not need to be worried about being burnt. The candles have a filtering system and no residue can enter the ear. You will feel a warming sensation but the effect is gentle and relaxing.

When the first candle has been removed, the procedure is repeated for the other ear, even if only one side is causing problems; both ears are always treated to ensure balance is maintained, only when both ears have been treated are the contents examined to determine how much and what type of waste has been dislodged. During a treatment, an initial consultation is given to ensure the treatment is right for the patient.  They are then asked to lie on their side on a therapy bed where the practitioner gently inserts a candle in the first ear and then the other.  The treatment is then finished with a lovely facial massage.
